How Pulse is organised

6 min

Pulse HMS runs the whole hotel: reservations, the front desk, housekeeping, food and beverage, stores, finance, people and more. Every department works in the same system, so a drink served at the pool bar reaches the guest's bill at the front desk, and the night audit sees it too. You will only ever use the part of Pulse your job needs.

Property

A property is one hotel. A group of hotels can run on one Pulse installation, but everything you see and do applies to the property shown at the top of the page. Bookings, rooms and bills of another property are never mixed in.

Permissions and roles

A permission is one thing you may do, such as check guests in or approve refunds. Pulse has several hundred of them.

A role is a set of permissions that matches a job: Front desk agent, Room attendant, Night auditor, Accountant and so on. Pulse comes with 55 ready-made roles. Your administrator gives you one or more roles for your property.

What this means for you

  • You see only what your roles allow. If a page or button is not there for you, your roles do not include it. That is normal: a room attendant does not need the payroll pages.
  • A colleague may see more than you. If you need a page to do your job, ask your administrator to check your roles. Do not borrow a colleague's sign-in.
  • You may hold several roles. A supervisor who also covers the desk can have both roles, and sees the pages of both.

Remember Nobody can give themselves a role or change their own access, not even a manager. Access is always granted by someone else.
